2800 Concert Band

Open to Grades: 9, 10, 11 & 12
At FRHS: The Concert Band is comprised of woodwind, brass, and percussion students with the ability to perform level IV/V music. All incoming freshman students will be placed into Concert Band by default but have the option to audition for Symphonic Band. Concert Band students will study music theory, history, composition, and will perform wind band literature of high artistic merit. Students are required to attend all scheduled events that occur outside of the regular school day, including but not limited to rehearsals, concerts, and other performances. Students are required to enroll in a band class during both Fall and Spring semesters each school year. Students in the Concert Band are highly encouraged to participate in the FRHS Marching Band. There may be a fee associated with this course. *
2805 Symphonic Band

Wind Ensemble is comprised of the most advanced wind and percussion students. The Wind Ensemble will perform wind band literature of the highest quality, and will include the study of music theory, history, and composition. Participation in the Wind Ensemble carries with it the responsibility of attendance at ALL scheduled rehearsals and performances, and will involve time outside of the regular school day.
2830 Select Stage Band – Jazz Ensemble 1

At FRHS: Jazz Ensemble I is comprised of woodwind, brass, and percussion students with the ability to perform advanced jazz literature. Membership is by audition only, and students must be a member of a concert band or show proficiency on the piano, guitar, or bass. Jazz Ensemble I students will be exposed to a variety of styles of music, as well as jazz improvisation and theory. Students are required to attend all scheduled events that occur outside of the regular school day, including but not limited to rehearsals, concerts, and other performances. Jazz Ensemble 1 will meet at a regularly scheduled time after school during the Fall and Spring semesters and will not take up an additional slot in the student’s course load. There may be a fee associated with this course. *

Small Instrumental is available to students who wish to study and perform music in small ensembles. At FRHS: This course is available to students wishing to develop their color guard skill sets in a small ensemble. Color Guard is now one of the most popular activities for students in the high school curriculum. This outstanding performing group works in tandem with the band program. Color Guard students will learn performance techniques, choreography, costuming and makeup, safety practices (warm up and cool down), music terminology, note values, rhythms, meter, tempo, melodic content and contrast, and music listening. Students who elect to participate in the FRHS Marching Band may enroll in this course for the first quarter, and students who elect to participate in the FRHS Winter Guard may enroll in this course for the third quarter. Students are required to attend all scheduled events that occur outside of the regular school day, including but not limited to rehearsals, competitions, and other performances. There may be a fee associated with this course.*
2891 Percussion Ensembles

This course is available to students who wish to study and perform music in small ensembles. At FRHS: Percussion Ensemble is for all percussion students interested in further developing their ability in the percussive arts. Emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of comprehensive percussion performance (snare drum, timpani, keyboards, world percussion, marching percussion, and drum set), including tonal concepts, technical skills, rehearsal skills, aural skills, and rudimentary music theory. Students are required to attend all scheduled events that occur outside of the regular school day, including but not limited to rehearsals, concerts, and other performances. Percussion students are required to enroll in Percussion Ensemble during both Fall and Spring semesters each school year. Percussion students that wish to perform the highest level of full ensemble literature will audition to be placed in Wind Symphony. All percussion students will be assigned to specific parts for full ensemble music in Concert Band and Symphonic Band. All percussionists are highly encouraged to participate in the FRHS Marching Band. There may be a fee associated with this course.*
Marching Band is THE LARGEST ATHLETIC TEAM ON CAMPUS!
Students enrolled in Symphonic Band, Select Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble are highly encouraged to be members of the Marching Band. Students interested in performing with the Color Guard and Marching Band will be exposed to the Marching Band performance idiom at the highest level. The Marching Band and Color Guard performs at various school and community events, as well as competitions throughout the first quarter of the school year only. Participation in the FRHS Marching Band is voluntary, highly encouraged, and carries with it the responsibility of attendance at all scheduled rehearsals and performances. This club WILL involve time outside of the regular school day, including, but not limited to, band camp prior to the beginning of the school year, outside-of-school rehearsals, and evening/Saturday performances throughout the fall Marching Band season (approximately 1st quarter of the year). Marching Band meets 1st semester ONLY.
