Work-Based Learning (WBL) has always been an integral component of quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. High school students and educators can access work-based learning opportunities including internships, apprenticeships, and paid work experiences.

1774 Work-Based Learning: Seminar
Credits: Variable credit up to 45 credits
Prerequisites: Complete the Work-Based Learning Agreement and working prior to start of class
Meets requirement(s): Elective
Open to Grades: 10, 11, and 12
Work-based Learning (WBL) Seminar replaces PaCE 1 and PaCE 2. The program offers high school students the opportunity to develop skills necessary to be successful in a paid, unpaid or volunteer experience. This course will help students build and enhance their workforce ready skills which include communication, problem-solving, collaboration, interpersonal, self-management, and organizational skills. Students may select the level of involvement based on the time they wish to commit their school schedule and their desire for a paid or unpaid experience. Students receive 1 credit for every 15 hours of work/volunteer experience with a maximum of 5 credits per quarter and a maximum of 45 overall credits. Summer opportunities are available. At FRHS: Students who enroll in WBL must have a job and complete the Work-Based Learning Agreement prior to being enrolled in the class. See Ms. Thiebaut in the WBL office.

Meets requirement(s): Elective
Open to Grades: 9, 10, 11 and 12
Work-Based Learning (WBL) programs offer eligible students an opportunity to earn high school credit and gain experience in a chosen pathway, profession, or industry. Students are eligible to enroll in a WBL course for an experience (internship, apprenticeship, paid relevant work experience) that is longer than 30 hours in length and earn variable elective credit (15 hours = 1 credit with a maximum of 5 credits per quarter). This course will support students as they develop professional workplace skills. Placements are based on availability (current opportunities are posted on Xello) and/or students chosen through an interview process. Students must meet the requirements of the WBL experience.

Alternative Cooperative Education (ACE) Career & Technical Education (CTE) provides individualized, developmentally appropriate programming to encourage multi-occupational pathways to successfully support students as they transition from school to work.
ACE provides work-based learning experiences, classroom instruction, and transition planning for students who may have difficulty obtaining paid work. Students learn and practice job skills while operating Cup of Joe coffee shop for students and staff as well as Taste Buds Bistro for staff at Fossil Ridge High School.
After successful participation in on-campus ACE coursework, students may participate in off-site work experiences and internships in our community.
Students can sign up to be peer helpers in Cup of Joe or Tastebuds to support ACE students as they learn and practice job skills. ACE peer helpers requires teacher approval.
